…so here we were in Hartsburg, MO at my in-laws farm house during x-mas when we see a group of Swans that decided to hang out at the farm and eat the leftover corn for a few DAYS. Mind you it was crazy cold down there (sub-zero weather).
This was the first time any of us have seen Swans in the area…turns out there is a bit of history here for us. The Swans we saw are known as Trumpeter Swans. They used to be prevalent in Missouri during Fall and Winter migrations; however, over-hunting of these water fowl lead to their demise. The population is on the rise now (as the are protected) and the fine for killing one is in the thousands of dollars. We saw 9 white (adult) swans and 4 swans under 1 year of age (depicted by their brown color).
Here are some pics I took (I had to use digital zoom, so some may not look as nice as they should):

…All I can say…is WOW! The first mower I bought was a Honday Harmony II from Home Depot about 8 years ago. Most of you know that I research the crap out of anything before I buy…I can’t say I did that with the Honda…I bought it strictly based on their reputation and name. Well, it turns out, I probably should have returned that mower back when I first bought it. It figures that any of the Honda/Toro/etc brands that the Big Box stores have are strictly the lower end models that don’t perform up to their siblings reputations which are NOT sold at big box stores.
The Honda still runs like a champ today with one very irritating feature…when mulching (which I do 99% of the time), it tends to miss a good deal of blades and leaves “stringers” behind. When BAGGING with this unit, it does exceptionally well! I’ve been known to be a lawn Nazi and this drove me nutzo for years on end. Well finally…I saved up the money to by me a Toro SuperRecycler (note: this is not the standard “Recycler” that HD sells)…this mower is bought from non-big-box store Toro dealers. I researched the crap out of this before I dropped my duckets on it…and let me tell you, it was worth every penny. This mower is powerful, cuts awesome, very adjustable, etc. ….it will last me a long time.
…ok that was wayyyy too much text to say that I bought a really good mower….

This was our 6th year in the sunny town of Silverton, CO. As usual…it was a great break from the daily grind…it’s even a vacation from a vacation! This year my friend Mark’s family rented a small house with us. We did our normal off roading and what not, but really we just went to take a break from the city and relax. ….uh that’s all for now.
